David Ledford has been executive editor of The News Journal since 2004, leading the transition to a fully integrated multimedia newsroom. Previously, he was executive editor of the Springfield News-Leader. He joined Gannett in 1998 as executive editor at the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls. He was named executive editor at Springfield in 2001. Mr. Ledford began reporting at The Moscow-Pullman Daily News, Moscow, Idaho, in 1980. He also reported for the Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Wash., from 1981 to 1985, and then returned to Moscow as managing editor from 1985 to 1989. He served as city editor at the Trentonian, Trenton, N.J., from 1989 to 1991 and as deputy editor at The Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1991 to 1998. He serves as secretary of Associated Press Managing Editors, which places him on the succession ladder to become president for the 2008 annual conference.
