Fernando Espuelas

Chairman & CEO, VOY, LLC

VOY is a multi-media company reaching Latinos and Latinophiles through television, radio, music, film, publishing and internet platforms. VOY’s core brand message is that self-empowerment and optimism are the keys to success and personal fulfillment.

With a long history of building globally-recognized brands and a strong advocate of empowering and connecting Latins, Espuelas co-founded and was formerly Chairman and CEO of StarMedia Network, a pioneering multi-platform media company for Spanish and Portuguese speaking audiences worldwide. At StarMedia, he was responsible for building a network that broke national barriers to become the most recognized new media brand in Latin America, serving 25 million people worldwide. Started with his credit card, Espuelas went on to raise $500 million dollars for the company in a combination of private and public offerings. StarMedia’s market capitalization reached $3.8 billions dollars.

He is also the author of Life in Action and the host of “Go!”, a soon-to-launch English-language daytime talk show in the U.S. and also a Spanish-language version of “Go!” called “VOY con Fernando Espuelas.” Both shows focus on the core VOY message of empowerment and self-actualization.

Espuelas’ visionary leadership has earned him worldwide recognition. Time magazine honored him as one for the “Leaders of the Millennium,” and he was recognized as a “2000 All-Star” business leader by Crain’s New York Business magazine. The World Economic Forum includes him among its elite “Global Leaders of Tomorrow,” and he was also a recipient of Latin Trade Magazine’s prestigious Bravo award. He received a New York magazine Award in 1999. Espuelas is a coveted speaker in the United States, Latin America and Europe on topics related to opportunities in the Latin American and U.S. Hispanic markets. He has also received extensive broadcast, print and online coverage throughout the world.

Espuelas has a history of linking and integrating Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities. He was the Managing Director of Marketing Communications for AT&T Caribbean and Latin America. Prior to AT&T, Espuelas held various senior positions at Ogilvy & Mather in both the United States and Latin America. Espuelas’ career also includes positions at other advertising agencies such as Lowe & Partners and Wunderman Worldwide.
