Lex Alexander

Citizen Media Editor, Greensboro News-Record
Lex Alexander is the News & Record's first citizen-journalism coordinator. In that role since January, he has overseen the newspaper's efforts to transform itself from a traditional print operation with online component to a primarily online operation with a print component produced by both a professional staff and contributing readers -- "open-source journalism."
He has been a reporter and editor for the N&R for 18 years; his reporting, book reviews and column writing, particularly on politics and religion, have won state and national honors. Before joining the N&R, he reported for newspapers in Statesville, New Bern and Gastonia, N.C. He also has worked in public relations in New York, contributed freelance writing to various publications, edited the recent book "Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century" by Bev Harris and David Allen, and worked as a radio disc jockey/producer in Charlotte. He holds a BA in English from Davidson College. He is married and has a 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.
