Rafat is a biz-tech journalist and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles. Until September 2002 he worked as the managing editor of Silicon Alley Reporter (SAR) and section editor for Venture Reporter magazine, in New York City. For SAR, he managed, wrote and edited daily news/feature stories on online media, technology, and hi-tech finance, for the daily e-mail newsletter to about 50,000 subscribers. For Venture Reporter, a bi-monthly magazine on venture capital business, he wrote features on venture money in the online media/entertainment industry and allied technologies, analyze startups in the sector, and interview venture capitalists investing in this sector. Prior to that, he was the digital media reporter at Inside.com, a media news site which closed down in Oct 2001.

Rafat completed B.Tech in Computer Engineering from India in 1996, and completed a Masters in Journalism at Indiana University in 2000. He was the Knight Foundation Fellow at Indiana.

ContentNext is an independent media and information company covering the business of digital media. The company operates two award-winning sites and newsletters: paidContent.org and MocoNews.net . ContentNext focuses on the digital sectors where media and entertainment companies operate: online, wireless, desktop, and off-desktop applications, products and services. Their mission is to help define sustainable business models and advance innovation within this sector.
