Ron Williams

Ron brings thirty years of experience in building alternative media institutions to Dragonfly Media. Trained as a reporter and editor, he has extensive experience as a publisher and social entrepreneur.

Ron was the founding editor and co-publisher (with Laura Markham) of Detroit Metro Times, an alternative newsweekly in his hometown, and later co-founded and served as president and CEO of Alternative Media, Inc. (AMI), the chain of award winning weeklies which in addition to the Detroit paper included the Orlando Weekly, San Antonio Current, and Columbus Guardian. He established investigative teams at all AMI properties, a national investigative bureau in Washington D.C. and directed the editorial mission of the company through a team of local editors. He is a past chair of the Independent Media Institute, contributing to various projects there including the development of AlterNet.org. He is a member of the Social Venture Network.

Ron founded Dragonfly Media, a network of city-based monthly magazines and web sites, in 2001 in New York City. Honoring people, planet and profit, Dragonfly covers issues such as complementary medicine, the environment, organics, spirituality and social change from a unique local/global perspective.
