Kurt Oeler





Digital Media Consultant

Kurt specializes in electronic journalism and publishing. Before starting his practice, he was Director of Editorial Operations at CNET News.com. Kurt launched News.com’s video reportage and led its integration of ZDNet News, while establishing joint reporting operations with CNET subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Singapore, and Australia. He directed syndication relationships with the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Wharton and Harvard business schools, and McKinsey & Company, among others. Previously, Kurt served as Night Editor, having joined the fledgling technology news organization in its first year and helped the online pioneer win honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, Society of American Business Editors and Writers, National Press Club, American Society of Magazine Editors, and others.

Before coming to CNET, Kurt was associate editor of Magellan, a first-generation search engine; associate editor of Historical Abstracts; and a sports journalist. He presently sits on the Advisory Board of Knowledge@Wharton, the University of Pennsylvania’s business review, and helps manage the US national rugby team.

A graduate of Williams College, Kurt and his wife reside in Mill Valley, California.
