Richard Landry

Executive Director, The Independent Press Association
Richard Landry is executive director of the Independent Press Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is to amplify the power of independent media so as to foster a more just, open, and democratic society. The IPA supports the growth and development of over 525 independent magazines, newspapers, and web sites throughout North America.
A seasoned executive with over 20 years of media experience, Landry is widely recognized as an innovator in the fields of high-technology and consumer publishing, new media, and the Internet. Before joining the IPA, Landry was CEO of richmedium, a strategic consulting firm serving clients in media, marketing, and information technology.
Landry was also Chairman & CEO of HyperMedia Communications, publisher of the award-winning magazine title NewMedia, and producer of the NewMedia INVISION Awards Festival, the largest international event honoring excellence in digital media. In 1993, HyperMedia set an industry trend by becoming one of the first media startups to go public on the NASDAQ.
An expert in the field of digital convergence, Landry is a frequent speaker at technology and media industry conferences. He currently serves on the Ad:Tech Conferences Advisory Board and is a guest lecturer at the Institute for Media and Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Landry is also a literary scholar studying the influence of Buddhism on American poetry, and is currently writing a critical biography of the poet Allen Ginsberg. Landry holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Stanford University.
