Advertising Director, The Free Lance-Star

Bill Smith is the Advertising Director at The Free Lance-Star, Virginia’s fastest growing newspaper. He is the co-founder of PrimeTime Solutions LLC, a creator and publisher of sales books and sales training materials.

Prior to joining The Free Lance-Star, Mr. Smith worked in sales and/or sales manager positions at The Roanoke Times, The Virginian-Pilot and The Washington Post. He held positions as Market Research Assistant and Marketing Services Manager at The Virginian Pilot. He was promoted through the position of Sales Director at The Washington Post. He began his sales and marketing career in 1978 as a sales representative for his college newspaper- The Daily Athenaeum.

Mr. Smith earned a BS degree in Journalism from West Virginia University in 1980. Since then, he has acquired executive/advanced business education from Strayer University, The Darden School of Business, The Center for Creative Leadership, The Sterling Institute and The American Press Institute, where he attended API's Revenues & Costs: Total Newspaper Management seminar in 1999.
