Here's something to look forward to as you're getting over your post-summer-vacation blues: The opportunity to walk the halls of GOOGLE and have in-depth, meaningful exchanges with its key executives! Yup, you can find out FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH how Google became the "It" company in online ad innovation.

Hmmmm... I wonder if by that time Google will be pre- or post-IPO ...

But no matter! Google is sponsoring Monetize the Web, a Media Center seminar September 12 to 15 in San Francisco (and November 16-19 in New York), and that's exciting enough! But wait, it gets better...

In addition to Google, our San Francisco seminar participants will also get to visit and meet with key decision makers at two other Web-advertising trendsetters, CBS.MarketWatch and InfoWorld.

VentureReporter.net and WeblogsInc.com founder Jason McCabe Calacanis heads the list of speakers, along with Kevin McKean, CEO of InfoWorld, and Media Center Director Andrew Nachison. Additional discussion leaders and speakers for Monetize 2004 will be posted on the Media Center Web site.

The seminar program will cover, among other things:

  • Contextual text messaging
  • Behavioral targeting
  • Cross-media messaging
  • Syndication and multiple/alternative revenue streams (such as blogs)
  • Advertising that rocks
  • Search engine optimization and audience development
  • How to demonstrate online ROI
  • The latest money-making opportunities and challenges

Meanwhile ...

1) Monetize the Web, November 16-19, 2004, New York

If you can't make it for our September seminar on the latest in Internet advertising and revenue tactics, you have a second chance at the end of the year. A second version of Monetize the Web, also sponsored by Google, will take place in New York City. Participants will visit and talk with top executives at New York Times Digital and The Knot, the top Internet site for weddings and an up-and-coming multimedia powerhouse. http://www.mediacenter.org/04/MonetizeNY

And here's what else we're up to:

2) Convergence: The Tour

For us, fall means Andrew Nachison, our director, getting on a plane for Florida, where he leads our famous Media Center Convergence Tour: How to How to Build a Multimedia News Company. This is our annual deep dive into the why and how of print-broadcast-online convergence, with on-site, under-the-microscope looks at some of the most advanced multi-platform news operations in the world, including the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and Media General's Tampa News Center -- you know, "The Temple of Convergence."

3) The Media Center Matrix

People really seem jazzed by the Media Center Matrix, a strategic model for understanding short-term and long-term growth strategies that reflect the changing relationships between media and empowered audiences. In fact, feedback has been so good that we have decided to issue a detailed explanation, to be ready for distribution in the fall. Look out for it! If you're interested in a private presentation to facilitate applying the matrix to your internal planning, contact Gloria Pan at gpan@mediacenter.org to schedule a conversation.
